Data centers face scrutiny over potential environmental impacts beyond their known water and power consumption, including the release of “forever chemicals,” or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These persistent compounds, used in cooling systems and other data center operations, accumulate in the environment and pose health risks to surrounding communities.
